2026 CWS Kits Volunteer Spotlight: Burt & Helen Wolf

Southern Ohio & Kentucky Brethren Disaster Ministries

For many years, Burt and Helen Wolf have been faithful leaders within the Southern Ohio & Kentucky Brethren Disaster Ministries (SOBDM). Since 2015, they have served as coordinators of this extraordinary volunteer team, guiding a ministry that consistently stands as the #1 producer of CWS Kits in the United States. Each year, their group assembles thousands of CWS Cleanup Buckets, CWS Hygiene Kits and CWS Kids Kits—an effort they describe not as their own, but as the shared work of a devoted community.

“We’ve packed CWS Kits for many years, including hundreds of CWS Cleanup Buckets each year,” Burt and Helen shared. “We know that each one means hope for a family starting recovery. It’s a small act of love that helps people begin the long process of cleaning up.”

Their leadership embodies the heart of Matthew 25:40, “Jesus said, ‘You cared for me.’” Every kit they help send out becomes a tangible expression of that scripture—offering comfort, dignity and care to neighbors facing hardship.

The volunteers who serve alongside them reflect the same generous, steady spirit. Several times a year, the group hosts special fundraisers to purchase the supplies needed for their kits. Then they gather to sort, pack, tape, stack and load—creating a continuous stream of compassion that reaches families recovering from disaster across the country. Their teamwork and consistency have made an immeasurable impact.

Matthew Stevens, CWS Director of Congregational Campaigns, shared his appreciation for their dedication: “Burt and Helen have been a source of inspiration for so many across the CWS network. Their leadership, kindness and unwavering commitment to serving others have helped shape the ministry of CWS Kits in extraordinary ways. Their example reminds us what faithful service looks like—and how a community, working together, can make a lasting difference.”

Helen often encourages other congregations and groups to get involved. “I would encourage you and your group to get involved with making CWS Kits,” she said. “It’s a great hands-on mission project that brings people together and lets you put love into something that will truly help someone in need.”

CWS celebrates Burt and Helen Wolf—and expresses deep gratitude for every volunteer who gives their time, energy and compassion to make the CWS Kits program a success year after year. Their collective ministry is a true blessing to neighbors here at home and around the world.
