When Care Comes Together: Many Kits, Lasting Hope

CWSKit Stories

When families face disaster or hardship, recovery requires more than one kind of support. CWS Kits work together to provide dignity, stability and hope—helping communities take meaningful steps forward, one kit at a time.

When disaster strikes, families can be left reeling without a clear path forward. Through CWS Kits, families receive care during the moments they need it most.

From natural disasters to everyday moments of hardship, your support helps communities not only survive but take meaningful steps toward recovery.

Emergency Cleanup Buckets: The Storm and the Aftermath

After Hurricane Milton made landfall, the damage was immediate and overwhelming. Homes were flooded. Streets were buried under debris. Families stood in front of what was left of their lives, unsure where to even begin.

That’s when Emergency Cleanup Buckets arrived.

Neighbors, including volunteers from Southern Ohio Brethren Disaster Ministries, worked together to assemble and share buckets with families impacted by the storm. Filled with practical essentials—cleaning supplies, gloves and tools—these buckets are often the first sign that recovery is possible.

One volunteer organizer shared, “I want to encourage other groups and churches to assemble CWS Emergency Cleanup Buckets. This is a wonderful service project for people of all ages. It is a great feeling knowing that you are helping people who could use some extra love.”

Hygiene Kits: Restoring Health and Dignity

For families navigating challenging circumstances long before or long after a disaster, access to basic hygiene can be fragile.

Across the country, CWS Hygiene Kits are shared with neighbors through family resource centers, warming shelters, soup kitchens and refugee welcome programs—places where small necessities make an outsized difference.

Inside each kit are simple but powerful items like soap, towels, toothbrushes and other essentials that help prevent illness and offer comfort during uncertain times.

For newcomer families, these kits often represent one of the first tangible signs of care families receive after arriving in a new place—restoring dignity and a sense of normalcy when so much else feels unfamiliar or unsettled.

Kids Kits: Making Space for Children to Be Children

In Gatesville, Texas, more than 2,800 students are receiving support through CWS Kids Kits. The small rural school district has seen firsthand how hardship can follow children into the classroom—especially for students experiencing housing instability or family transitions.

Each Kids Kit, filled with school supplies and creative tools, becomes more than just a backpack of materials. For children who are facing uncertainty at home, having their own supplies fosters confidence, pride and a sense of belonging.

For a rural community like Gatesville, that support can make a lasting difference. Many migrant farmworkers live and work in the area temporarily, often moving after only a few months and without predictable access to school supplies. CWS Kids Kits help ensure that all children, regardless of circumstance, have the tools they need to learn, grow and thrive.

Period Packs: Care That Works Together

For women and girls facing crisis, one of the most overlooked needs is access to menstrual care. In moments of emergency or ongoing instability, something as simple as a CWS Period Pack can help make everyday life possible again.

Period Packs provide essential menstrual supplies alongside a clear message: dignity matters. For recipients, these packs remove barriers that often go unspoken, offering relief, confidence and the ability to fully participate in daily life.

In 2025, thanks to the compassion of donors and volunteers, CWS shared 6,147 Period Packs with partners across the country.

Whether shared through shelters, community partners or emergency response efforts, Period Packs affirm that care should be comprehensive. Meeting menstrual health needs isn’t an extra—it’s an essential part of supporting whole people and whole communities.

Through every bucket or kit distributed, hope takes root. These four kits are different expressions of the same promise: in moments of greatest need, care will come, dignity will be protected and no one will walk alone.
