It takes a lot of helping hands to pack 1,000 CWS Kids Kits.
At Dance Etcetera, students, parents and volunteers were ready to get to work.
The dance studio in Huber Heights, Ohio, was filled with school supplies, tote bags and families working side by side to get each Kit ready for a child who needs it.
For dance teacher Stephanie, the evening was about more than reaching a big number.
“It’s an opportunity for our students to learn what it means to give back and to see what we can accomplish when we work together,” she said.
The event was truly a team effort. Brethren Disaster Ministries of Southern Ohio/Kentucky raised the funds to purchase all of the supplies. Members of their team also spent time sewing the tote bags. Then the dance students and their families filled each one with the supplies a child needs.
For Brenda, another dance teacher, the project has become a tradition with a lesson she hopes stays with the students.
“The kids really enjoy doing this project each year. It’s a fun way for them to learn how they can help others,” she said. “What makes this so special is seeing everyone come together to help our neighbors.”
And she hopes the experience stays with the students long after the last Kit is packed.
“I hope the kids remember making these Kits when they’re older—and someday come back and make them with their own children.”
These CWS Kids Kits will soon reach children who need them. And behind each Kit are young people who discovered that they can make a difference for another child.
