On Wednesday, September 11th, Hurricane Francine made landfall in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, as a Category 2 storm. While it was downgraded to a tropical storm shortly after moving inland, the damage was already done. Francine left a trail of destruction, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and over 400,000 power outages across Louisiana and Mississippi. Parts of Louisiana saw up to 10 inches of rain, causing severe flooding and widespread damage.
In the wake of this disaster, Church World Service (CWS) is actively responding. Thanks to the unwavering support of donors and volunteers like you, CWS has been able to quickly deliver Emergency Cleanup Buckets, Hygiene Kits, School Kits, and Period Packs to areas in need, including Baton Rouge, Thibodaux, and Lafayette, LA. Partnering with local organizations like Catholic Charities and the United Cajun Navy, these supplies are reaching the hands of those most affected by the flooding.
“Your generosity has made this rapid response possible,” said Matthew Stevens, Director of Congregational Campaigns, CWS. “The Emergency Cleanup Buckets that our supporters create allow families to begin cleaning up their homes and reclaiming their lives after the storm.”
It’s because of you—our incredible donors, volunteers, and congregations—that families impacted by Hurricane Francine are finding hope in the midst of hardship. Thank you for your compassion and for helping these families start their journey toward recovery.
